What are electrical conductors?

Electrical conductors are defined as a group of materials through which electricity can flow. These materials are also heat conductive. Electrical conductors include: Metals, earth, the human body, and *****, thanks to the ability of these materials to conduct heat because they have free electrons that allow the electric current to pass easily.

Electrical connectors are used in many applications, for example; Aluminum is used in cooking utensils because it is a good conductor of electricity and heat. Electrically conductive materials include; Copper, aluminum, silver, gold, graphite, titanium, water, and many more.

Types of materials according to their electrical conductivity
Electrical conductors are divided into several types depending on their ability to conduct electricity, and these types are:

good conductors
Most metallic materials are good conductors of electricity, such as; Copper, iron, silver, aluminum, and gold, in addition to some nonmetals, such as graphite, which consists of carbon, which is a poor conductor of electricity. These materials are usually used to transmit electrical energy; As the use of copper in household appliances and electrical circuits.

Semiconductors
They are materials that have a limited ability to conduct electricity, and these materials include: Silicon and germanium, and these materials are classified according to their ability to conduct electricity between good conductors and insulators, and these materials are usually used in the manufacture of electrical and electronic devices, in order to be able to control the flow of current.

resistors
Resistors are defined as small-sized electronic devices that contribute to the reduction and resistance of electric current, which provides electrical and electronic devices with the electrical energy necessary to carry out their function, but in an organized manner, and also protects them from damage resulting from the increase in electricity.

insulators
They are materials that do not allow electric current to flow through them, as the electrons of these materials are tightly bound in their atoms, and cannot be separated even after applying a strong voltage difference. These materials include: Wood, plastic, glass, rubber, etc. These materials are usually used to cover electrically conductive materials, in order to make them safer and contribute to the concentration of electric flow.

properties of electrical conductors
Electrical conductors have a set of properties that enable them to conduct electricity. These properties are as follows:

Electrical conductors allow electrons and ions to move freely through them.
The electric field inside conductors is zero, allowing electrons to flow through them.
The charge density inside electrical conductors is zero.
Any point on an electrical conductor has the same potential.
Free charges only exist on the surface of electrical conductors.
