I need to subscribe to the best home phone service provider that will allow me to keep my existing phone number when switching to their service. They told me that it’s the portability process, you will be able to keep your existing phone number. 


However, there is one thing they told me to avoid: to tell my existing service provider about the switch. Now, I want to know from you all whether it’s a shady practice from this service provider. Or it’s just that thing is to prevent my existing service provider from blocking the porting process.

I switched providers last year and I faced the same situation. I followed their advice not to inform my existing provider and the number porting process was efficient.
