Much like a coffee machine that uses pods to brew your beverage, the LG HomeBrew uses single-use capsules that contain yeast, hops, and malt. All you have to do is pop in the pods and press a button, and the machine takes over from there. It automates the entire process, from fermentation and carbonation to aging and serving, and it even self-cleans and sanitizes in between batches. You can also check in on the status of your beer through the device's companion app, so you'll always know where it's at in the process and when it's ready. When it's done, you can serve it straight from the tap on the device.

Of course, as any home brewer can tell you, brewing beer takes time. So, unlike your favorite coffee maker, your beer won't brew instantly. It'll take more like 2 weeks depending on the beer, so you'll have to wait a bit to try the results.

Each batch comes out to approximately 10.5 pints of beer, and it's programmed to make 5 different beer styles: American IPA, American Pale Ale, English Stout, Belgian-style Witbier, and Czech Pilsner. Plus, it has an optimized fermentation algorithm to ensure high-quality taste every time.

"Homebrewing has grown at an explosive pace, but there are still many beer lovers who haven’t taken the jump because of the barriers to entry, like complexity, and these are the consumers we think will be attracted to LG HomeBrew," Dan Song, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solutions, said in a press release.

The second tier is distribution. Producers will often provide exclusive rights to a certain company to distribute its product to different retailers, and the post-Prohibition landscape usually makes distributors powerful entities within each individual state. This reduces competition and can raise prices since fewer distributors mean less incentive to reduce prices.

Some states have regulations further defining the relationship between the brewer and a distributor, even going as far as to bind a brewer to a distributor legally. This can create a headache for consumers since disputes between brewers and distributors can result in certain beers becoming unavailable in an area.
