Building stone properties

Masonry is a form of masonry used in the construction of buildings. Building blocks vary. We find basalt, granite, limestone, sandstone, and many others, and each type is suitable for different uses and is extracted from huge hard rocks from quarries, and these stones must be free of any cracks and be strong so that they can resist different weather conditions and factors

basalt
Basalt is an igneous rock, characterized by extreme density and hardness, and has many physical properties. It is dark in color, ranging in color from gray to black, and consists mainly of plagioclase and pyroxene minerals.

In addition, its corrosion rate is low, as it contains 50% silica, which makes it a good resistance to weathering due to its strong hardness . It is widely used in roads and in the construction of dams and sidewalks, as its compressive strength ranges from 200 MPa to 350 MPa.

Granite
Granite is found in abundance in nature, and its compressive strength ranges from 100 MPa to 250 MPa. It is also considered a volcanic rock, and it is characterized by the lack of pores, which means its low ability to absorb, which makes it a weak resistor. It is widely used in indoor fireplaces, and as a result of its low porosity, it is also used in floors, walls and columns due to its resistance to water penetration, and its colors range from light gray to pink.

Sandstone
Sandstone is one of the types of sedimentary rocks, and this type of stone is mixed with silica cement in the construction of heavy structures, and sandstone is composed of quartz and feldspar and contains different colors such as red, brown, yellow, and others.

The reason for this is due to the presence of iron oxide and silica within the sandstone, and it is not suitable for building facades of buildings, but it can be used in the walls of rivers and in the foundations of buildings and bridge walls.

marble
Marble is a very strong metamorphic rock, as limestone is subjected to intense pressure and heat, which turns it into marble. It also features its ability to polish and cut easily and is available in white and pink.

Alabaster
Alabaster is used in a limited way and is confined to construction work, and the reason for this is due to its high transparency, as it is only used in the construction of some artistic elements, but it has recently been combined with other elements, which helped to use it on a larger scale.
