I thought there was a drinks thread that wasn't the whiskey thread nor the homebrew beer thread, but couldn't find it.

So this thread is for all else alcohol, but in particular cocktails (even though I'm not particularly a cocktail person, mostly a scotch whisky guy) - especially in these times of limited shopping, cocktails with substituted/improvised recipes using whatever you've got on hand. But if you finally opened up that bottle of wine you'd been keeping mention it here too.

On that note, tonight I started with something simple with my first time making a gimlet. Normally made with gin, I made mine with vodka since I had a bottle open already. I followed a 3/1/1 ratio vodka/lime juice/simple syrup. Didn't have the syrup on hand so I just mixed 1:1 ounce sugar & water in the glass before adding the other ingredients. Still yummy.

I've got plenty of limes on hand, so I'll made this again. Next time I'll use the shaker though (which reminds me: I have to make some big ice cubes). Maybe I'll crack open my last bottle of gin for it too.

I rarely drink liquor, but bourbon is what I drink when I do and this one has the smell of perfectly-seasoned steak. We're going to have to sample this on the other side when it's possible to do in public.
