I do notice that the teachers that I have dealt with over the last 30+ years were for the most part not graduates of the "elite" institutions. But some were. And I believe more grads from the top schools should get into teaching thesis assistance. The rewards can be great, even if the pay isn't. But let's face it; the pay is not terrible, the benefits are usually pretty good, there is substantial time off, and teachers as a whole are positive role models.
