Manufacturing Bottles
It is very difficult even for the best tasting and most functional beverages to be successful if they don’t have an aesthetically pleasing package. As this is responsible for attracting the attention of a customer in a store, usually filled with many other competing products, it is essential for the product’s outer packaging to be eye-catching.
Throughout the beverage industry there are a variety of processes and packages used for products, and understanding a beverage’s requirements is crucial at this stage. There are a wide range of packaging options and some of the most used ones include Aluminum cans, plastic PET bottles, glass bottles, HDPE packaging, tetra packs and stick packs. In the beverage industry there are four types of processes used to fill up the outer packaging and each process has different results. Cold filling beverages requires preservatives as there isn’t any heat used and therefore cannot be labeled as “all natural” and this process is suitable for plastic PET bottles, Aluminum cans and glass bottles. However, hot filling beverages doesn’t require preservatives to be used and it can be labeled “all natural” and it is suitable for both glass and plastic PET bottles. Aseptically packing products is done by heating them in a sterile environment and it is used for HDPE and tetra packs. Lastly, beverages can be tunnel pasteurized, but this technique is only useful for Aluminum cans.
The next step in creating a visually appealing product is designing the label and the bottle. The label has to be unique as this will become the product’s image, while the design of the bottle could differentiate the product from the competition more. Everything can be customized, ranging from the lid to the bottle, but using standardized can/bottle shapes is not an issue.
